Question: Call me poo.. haha. I used to be a top student.. a student who really cared about her marks and aced everything. I was on top of all my academic studies, I was in control.
However, as I gotten older, just in my first year of highschool, I found myself changing so much. Not only are my marks dropping, but I'm not that concerned about it either. If I was really concerned, I would do my best to change, but I'm not. I try to change, but I'm a person who doesn't really live up to all the promises I make. I really can't change that personality of mine... I don't know where to start.
I think the main problem is that I procrastinate. Procrastination is killing me. Plus the fact that I have a boyfriend, which is another problem I may get to you about later on when I have more time.. (I hope you don't mind, it's kind of complicated... ^^") How can I stop procrastinating when it's become like a second nature to me? Also, how would I be able to get that fire in me to be a good student again? I think the main reason why I can't do it is because it's already nearing the end of the school year and exams are coming... My marks right now are really average. I guess.. I feel that there's no hope... Yet in the back of my mind, there's ALWAYS a voice saying "everything's going to be ok". >__<
Thanks for the attention! :)
Answer: As a procrastinator myself, I do not think I am qualified to give you advice on this matter. :P Old habit dies hard, unfortunately. :( But I've found that having a purpose, having a goal is the best mechanism for change. Personally, I don't care much about GPA. But the admission's comittee for medical school does, and as I want to become a doctor, I therefore must keep up my GPA. This realization forces me to stop being lazy, at least, academically. [Yes, I still procrastinate. But I *always* get the work done on time and I do not allow the quality of my work to decrease.] What is your ultimate goal in life? Does it require a strong academic background? If yes, act now to start establishing good study habits.
Also, ask yourself if the change is you or if it's the workload instead. High School is harder than Intermediate. Homework becomes more frequent, as well. Sometimes, it is tiredness and not laziness that discourages us. Furthermore, when we encounter a more difficult task, we are less motivated to commence it or finish it. If this is the problem, seek tutoring help. Your teachers, classmates, parents, and siblings if you have any are great resources.
Keep in mind that it's good to live optimistically, to know that "everything will be okay", but don't let that be your crudge. Don't just rely on the pieces of the puzzle to naturally fall into place. You have to put forth effort.
